Elementary knowledge of cable

What is the maximum current and power through a 1mm² of cable? For example, with the need of 25 ampere, how to calculate the conductor cross section before installation?

Now, let me show you the formula as below:

① For conductor cross section of cable: 1.5mm², 2.5mm², 4mm², 6mm²&10 mm ², please use their square multiplied by 5 times

 

② For conductor cross section of cable: 16mm²&25mm², please use their square multiplied by 4 times.

 

③ For conductor cross section of cable: 35 mm²&50mm², multiply its cross-sectional area by 3 times.

 

④ For conductor cross section of cable: 70mm²&95mm², multiply its cross-sectional by 2.5 times.

 

⑤ For conductor cross section of cable: 120mm ²,150mm ²&185 mm ², multiply its cross-sectional by 2 times.

 

Operating temperature at 30 ℃, long-term continuous 90% load carrying capacity is as follows:

1.5mm²――18A

2.5mm²――26A

4mm²――26A

6mm²――47A

10mm²――66A

16mm²――92A

25mm²――120A

35mm²――150A

 

Power P=Voltage U× Current=220volt×18A=3960 Watt

 

The provisions of National standard GB4706.1-1992 / 1998 of the wire load current value (part) as below:

Permitted permanent current capacity for copper cable as below:

2.5mm²(16A25A)

4mm²(25A32A)

6mm²(32A40A)

 

Permitted permanent current capacity for aluminum cable as below: 

2.5mm²(13A20A)

4mm²(20A25A)

6mm²(25A32A)

 

For example:

 

1The power consumption for a computer is about 200300W(11.5A), then 10Pcs computers need a 2.5mm ² copper wire for power supply, otherwise, the fire may occur.

2If power consumption for one 3P air conditioner is about 3000W (about 14A), then, one air conditioner needs 2.5mm² conductor of cable for power supply.
